I've never been to Romics, but this year I'll be there. However, the biggest event in Italy is "Lucca Comics & Games", there are a lot of people from all Italy. I love to be there every year since 2004 :D

Yes, that's it.
It's in Lucca, in Tuscany: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucca

The convention is held into the wall of city, it's a very big area full of people :)
Here's an example from the last year: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31215102@N04/3005248962/sizes/l/in/set-72157608675185323/

It's the area in front of the cosplay stage.

I've only been to Lucca (I live too far from Rome) and it's basically a fair/convention where
- a cosplay contest is held
- some artists (most of the time Italian ones) introduce their latest creation or talk to fans
- several meetings about the comics/gaming worlds are held
- a lot of publishers (and "normal" shops) sell all sorts of goods, ranging from regular manga to hard-to-find action figures
- sometimes, people role play (I've only seen some people duelling a la Lord of the Rings once, though)
- the latest/more popular games (Magic, Warhammer, etc.) can be played in the "games" area

Overall it's a big event in Italy, but I'm afraid it's nowhere near E3 or Tokyo Game Show. In fact, I've hardly ever found any videogames in there, save for the occasional shop selling new/used games for current or old consoles.
